About Kolot

How can we in Israel build a culture of social involvement and community commitment?

Tense, divided and struggling with our identity, can we unify the different sectors, communities and ideologies?

Can Israelis use Judaism and Jewish sources to shape their society and lifestyle?

At Kolot, we believe that the wisdom of the past can provide us with answers and hope for the future.

Kolot is a nonprofit organization dedicated to shaping a society of communal responsibility in Israel based on the renewed and profound knowledge of Jewish texts. Through programs that stress the study of Jewish sources in an open, honest way, Kolot aims to strengthen Jewish leadership and widen the circle of activists who are prepared to lead the process of Israeli cultural and social formation.

Founded in 1997, Kolot is a pluralistic Beit Midrash where prominent secular and religious Israelis come together to study classical Jewish texts and their relevance to life in Israel today. Several Kolot programs bring Israelis into contact with their counterparts around the world, for mutual study and leadership training that benefits  all participants and their own Jewish communities.
